Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 10, 2026
A California Fishing App (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use the Site.
By using the Site, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide, such as when you:
- Create an account (name, email, password)
- Log catches, skunk days, photos, notes, and saved spots
- Contact us by email
We also automatically collect:
- Log and device data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, and approximate time)
- Optional analytics (anonymous page views and performance) only if you choose “Accept analytics” in the cookie notice
- Cookies and similar storage (see below)
If you use map location features, your device may share GPS coordinates with the Site in your browser so we can show your position or save a pin. We do not sell location data.
2. How we use information
- Provide accounts, catch logs, and saved spots
- Host photos you upload
- Operate, secure, and improve the Site
- Respond to requests and comply with law
We do not sell your personal information to data brokers. We do not use advertising or remarketing pixels.
3. Sharing
We may share information with:
- Service providers that host the Site, database, images, and (if you consent) analytics
- Authorities when required by law or to protect safety and the Site
Catch-log entries are treated as private to your account. Administrators may review limited flags (for example MPA intersection on a logged point) to operate the service — not to publish your journal.
4. Cookies and tracking
Essential technologies run whether or not you accept analytics: sign-in sessions, your cookie preference, and basic server logs.
Optional analytics load only if you choose “Accept analytics.” “Essential only” or dismissing the notice declines optional analytics.
| Storage | Purpose | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in session | Keep you logged in (NextAuth) | Essential |
| A California Fishing App cookie preference | Remembers Accept analytics vs Essential only | Essential |
| Map / PWA caches | Store map tiles and pages for offline use | Essential |
| Vercel Web Analytics | Anonymous page views (only if you accept analytics) | Analytics |
5. Data security
We use reasonable safeguards, but no internet transmission is completely secure.
6. Your rights (California)
California residents may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how we use it
- Request deletion or correction
- Opt out of sale or sharing (we do not sell personal information)
- Not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights
Email contact@acaliforniafishingapp.org with the subject “Privacy request.” See also Do Not Sell or Share.
7. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Changes
We may update this Policy and will change the “Last updated” date when we do.
