About this pier
B Street Pier — officially the Michael J. Scavuzzo Public Fishing Pier — is Crescent City's dedicated public fishing pier on the western side of the harbor in Del Norte County. CDFW lists it as "B St. Pier," the Del Norte County entry on the statewide roster of public piers, jetties, and breakwaters. The pier sits near the harbor breakwater and Battery Point Lighthouse, across the bay from the commercial Citizens Dock waterfront. Crescent City's harbor was heavily reshaped by the 1964 tsunami; this public pier is the shore-fishing structure built for recreational access, not commercial unloading. Offshore waters here fall in California's Northern groundfish management area.
What you can catch
Anglers commonly find perch, greenling, small rockfish, and flatfish around the pilings and sandy patches, with seasonal chances at salmon when bait pushes into the bay. Crabbing can be popular in open seasons with legal gear. The Harbor District also highlights rockfish, lingcod, salmon, and Dungeness crab among local species — always match what you keep to current size, bag, and season rules for the Northern management area.
License and regulations
Recreational fishing from B Street Pier does not require a California sport fishing license when the structure qualifies as a public pier under CCR Title 14, Section 1.88 and appears on CDFW's current public pier list. The license exemption does not waive size limits, bag limits, report cards, or seasons. On a public pier you may use no more than two rods and lines, two hand lines, or two crab appliances per person (CCR Title 14, Section 28.65(b)). Citizens Dock is a separate commercial harbor structure and is not the CDFW-listed public pier for Del Norte County — do not treat it as license-free based on this page.
Tips for fishing here
Light high-low rigs with shrimp, clam, or worm pieces work well for perch and greenling along the pilings. Wind funnels across this exposed western harbor edge, so an early start and layered clothing help. Watch harbor traffic and give commercial vessels room. Confirm Northern groundfish depth and season rules before keeping rockfish or lingcod.
Before you go
Reach the pier via Front Street to B Street in Crescent City, at the west end of the harbor near Battery Point. Check CDFW's public pier list and Harbor District notices for temporary closures. Bring a tape measure, and buy a sport license if you plan to fish the beach, jetty rock walls that are not listed as public piers, or other non-pier shoreline nearby.
